吳梓寧,《浪花的嘆息THE SIGH OF SPINDRIFT》,影像裝置,2013。

The video material of this piece is shot in the summer of 2011 by the artist on the balcony of her house in Taitung. This scene of the ocean was used before in Laza’s 2011 solo exhibition. But through this re-editing, she put together with another piece in this exhibition “THE RAINFALL OF RICE” to present as a series of works. We can see the spindrifts surging under the south wind, occasionally some groups of abnormal surging sea waves rallying arrangement of texts, which seems like the voice of the ocean eager telling their objection and refusing to commercialization. This works responds to lots of commercial development projects held in recent years. The costs are huge sacrifices on natural environment, and the goverment is ignoring the preservation and respect to the historical tradition field of Aboriginal people for continuing their cultural activities and education. The goverment takes finance advantage with BOT(Build–operate–transfer) mode to sell or lease natural resources such as marine resources or farmland to the enterprise consortiums for private profit making. This kind of projects have raise lots of discussions and protests by social communities. With this simple phrase “NOT FOR SALE” to convey the standpoint on natural resources as a declaration, and the artist also hope the audience can resonate with this work and reflect their thinking on these issues.
